Over the next three years, TENT will receive one-off funding from the Performing Arts Fund. This means that the organisation can once again play a key role in the development of contemporary circus in the Netherlands. In the coming months, ambitious plans and projects will be dusted off once more.
These plans had previously been assessed favourably by the Performing Arts Fund’s advisory committee as part of the new Arts Plan. However, due to budget constraints, they were not approved. TENT subsequently lodged an appeal against the Fund’s decision.
Although no ruling has yet been made in TENT’s case, the Fund decided to support TENT after all with a one-off grant. This relates to a unique situation that arose in a similar case involving Pynarello, in which the appeal was upheld on a number of points. The Fund was subsequently required to ask the original advisory committee to clarify its advice on two points. However, due to a previous ruling regarding ‘the appearance of bias on the part of at least one member of the advisory committee’, it proved difficult to carry out this instruction to the letter.
TENT would like to thank the Performing Arts Fund for its trust and the constructive discussions held throughout this process. We would also like to thank everyone who has supported TENT over the past two years. After a long period of uncertainty, we can now once again devote our full energy to the needs and ideas of makers and to creating space for in-depth circus research.
