Hola! We are Itzel and Micaela, Itzel was born and raised in Mexico (1994), and Micaela was born in Bolivia (1999) and raised in Chile. We first crossed paths during auditions at ACAPA (Academy for Circus and Performance Art) in Tilburg, where we both graduated last June 2023, Itzel with aerial hoop and Micaela in aerial rope. Through these years, our shared roots united us as friends and now as Insurgentes Company.
We are a dynamic duo bound by our love for circus, our connection transcends borders, reflecting our Latin American heritage. During our residency week, we would like to take the opportunity to mainly work on breaking the fourth wall, cultivating a genuine engagement, blending circus, physical theater, and humor organically, while preserving cultural authenticity.
As Insurgentes Company, we are starting a new chapter. Our very first performance, La Cosecha, has been selected for Keep an Eye foundation and we performed our first draft in Festival Circolo 2023. Having heard about TENT since our arrival in the Netherlands, and with Itzel's participation in Back to Base#14, we're excited for our collaboration with TENT and Cirklabo, and with Insurgentes Company's twofold support around diversity and inclusion.
